Search for the F-104N

On 3 January 1993, Pete Merlin and Tony Moore set out to find the F-104N crash site. With photographs of the wreck, they drove to an area of rolling hills about two miles northwest of the XB-70 crash site.

After working their way down a sandy wash, they spotted a familiar ridge. It matched the photos perfectly. Within minutes, Pete and Tony had positively identified F-104 debris at the site.

On a later expedition, they visited the cockpit impact site. It was at a higher elevation, approximately half a mile from the main fuselage.
